Iiwi Honey Creeper

The Iiwi Honey Creeper has a downward curling bill specializing for reaching nectar in deep tubular flowers.

Once common to the forests of Hawaii natives used the bright red feathers to create capes as symbols of power and prestige.

Today the Iiwi has largely disappeared from most of the Hawaiian islands due to habitat and food source loss, climate change, and contact with disease carrying mosquitoes.

Honey - How Sweet It Is!

Honey bees are vital for human survival as they pollinate roughly a third of the food we eat.

Adding to their value is the production of honey, a sweet nutritious, delicious product of their diligent work.

This art is a reminder of the sweetness of life itself.

Chick Survival

In the Antarctic rapidly melting sea ice due to warming climate is leading to the loss of Empire Penguins.

Empire Penguins require stable sea ice to breed and raise their young. Because of the care required to raise young in the harsh Antarctic environment they have only one chick at a time. The loss of the sea ice directly affects chick survival.

On the seat of the stool an adult is attending to their chick's needs while round the edge wood droplets represent the melting ice that threatens its life.
